Our Philosophy

Setting the Standard for the Development of Single-Family Rentals

Avanta was created out of the deep experience of Hunt Companies Inc., a diversified, family-owned holding company that invest in operating businesses, real estate assets and infrastructure assets.  For more than 30 years, Hunt Companies has developed, built, owned, and operated high-quality single-family rental housing communities. Avanta Residential was formed by Hunt to specialize in the next wave of single-family rental housing.

In 2021, Invesco Real Estate made a strategic investment in Avanta to further scale Avanta’s operating platform. This partnership, along with Hunt’s extensive real estate background and more than $8.5 billion in completed developments, Avanta is positioned to set the standard for the industry by creating single-family rental neighborhoods.

Avanta Residential is comprised of an experienced team of architects, finance experts, construction managers, developers, asset managers, qualified investment managers, and property managers with a combination of proven development expertise, operational capabilities and an unparalleled national reach— we only hire the best.

Peter Spier

Peter Spier serves as a Managing Director of Avanta Residential with a primary emphasis on investment and development strategy, deal-sourcing, and capital markets activities.  His professional background includes more than 20 years of experience in the development, operation, and financing of multiple types of real estate, with deep knowledge of office, medical-office, and multifamily assets.

Mr. Spier’s responsibilities include asset management of a national portfolio of 2,700 affordable housing units, development of a high-rise office building, and multiple market-rate multifamily projects.

Terence Johnson

Terence Johnson, Senior Vice President of Development, has more than 22 years of design and project management experience in multiple real estate sectors, and is especially skilled at providing design while reducing overall construction and maintenance costs. Mr. Johnson’s responsibilities include renovation and new construction activities with a focus on architectural design, project management, tenant coordination, site selection analysis, leasehold review, building and construction standards development, capital budget review and preparation, contract administration, and legal reviews.

Paul Crabtree

Paul Crabtree (Denver, CO) serves as Avanta’s Vice President of Finance and Accounting and oversees financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, shareholder communications, and reporting at Avanta. In addition, Paul and his team are responsible for managing financial risks, project and portfolio analysis, record keeping, and banking lines of credit. He has 20 years of accounting and finance experience in Private Equity, Real Estate, and Public Accounting. Before joining Avanta Residential, Paul led the finance, accounting, reporting, treasury, risk management, and property management functions for Confluent Development, a private equity and institutional funded developer focused on mixed-use, industrial, and senior living development with $950m in development in 22 states during his tenure. In addition, Paul worked for Real Capital Solutions, where he was responsible for all accounting and reporting functions of domestic and international condo, apartment, land, and residential development with $1 billion in construction projects. Paul holds a BBA in Accounting and a BBA in Finance from Abilene Christian University.
